I knew I would score on my debut for Super Eagles – reveals George Ilenikhena

Al Ittihad striker George Ilenikhena says he is confident of scoring on his debut for Nigeria’s senior team in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Madagascar, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Born in Nigeria and raised in France, the 20-year-old opted to play for Nigeria rather than wait for France, and had a debut to remember when he equalized for Nigeria on the stroke of half-time.

Apart from the goal, he had a very good game and was substituted to a great ovation from the fans at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

“I knew I would score, but it was not something that was going to put pressure on me. The most important thing is the team’s victory and we got it ahead of the next game in Bissau against Guinea-Bissau,” he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s match, he said they will approach the match with the seriousness it deserves as a top-class clash. “It’s a match between the two best teams in the group, so we can’t underestimate them,” he said.

“The mentality will be the same as the first game. Play our game and hopefully get a win to keep the momentum going.”
