Tinubu returns to Lagos, begins post-holiday meetings

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria, arriving in Lagos on Tuesday after completing his extended working holiday in Europe.

The President landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, where he was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries. His arrival was also reported by the Presidency and contemporary news reports.

Tinubu’s return ends his stay abroad which began on August 30, when he left Abuja for London as part of his annual leave. He then traveled to Paris, where he combined the holiday with a formal event.

The President’s arrival in Lagos was confirmed by his Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, who announced to X, “Landed. Welcome home Mr President!”

Rather than immediately returning to Abuja, Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos on official and political business in the coming days.

According to the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President is scheduled to meet with political leaders and colleagues as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the statement read.

The Presidency had earlier said Tinubu’s decision to return via Lagos was also linked to his plans to honor the late Chief MKO Abiola, winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election and a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

Tinubu is expected to participate in activities commemorating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day on October 1 and attend the premiere of a film commemorating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theater in Iganmu, Lagos.

While in Paris, President Trump held high-level meetings, including a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron. He also met with businessman Vincent Bolloré and other investors as part of official activities carried out during his stay.

The Presidency described the trip as a working holiday and said Tinubu remained in touch with officials at home and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.

The President is expected to continue his visit in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
