The Edo State High Court in Benin City has sentenced four people to death by hanging for kidnapping, membership of a secret sect and other violent crimes.
The Special Criminal Court presided over by Judge Terry Momodu Aigbona handed down the sentence after a verdict that lasted more than three hours.
Judge Aigbona convicted the alleged gang leader, Isaac Marvelous, 32, on 11 charges and imposed appropriate sentences. The court also ordered that the convicts be executed by hanging or lethal injection.
The other inmates were Wisdom Michael, 36; Rufus Michael, 30; and Raphael Prize, 27.
The four were found guilty of 11 charges that included kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes.
The court also handed down various prison sentences to other suspects and ordered that firearms taken from the convicts as evidence be handed over to the Federal Government.
