Emmanuel’s red card and Chukwuma’s goal sink Kwara United

Agor Chukwuma’s 66th-minute goal condemned Kwara United to a 1-0 defeat against Kun Khalifat in the Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday six fixture at the Dan Anyam Stadium, Owerri, on Sunday.

The Harmony Boys were reduced to 10 men two minutes before the decisive goal after Mighty Emmanuel received a red card in the 64th minute following a harsh challenge on an opponent.

The sending-off seemed to change the tone of the match, as Kun Khalifat took advantage of the numerical superiority to create pressure that eventually produced the winning goal through Chukwuma.

Kwara United, who had limited clear opportunities in front of goal, struggled to convert their opportunities, particularly after being reduced to 10 men.

Despite a series of tactical changes by the Kwara United coaching team in a bid to rescue the result, Kun Khalifat stood firm in defense and successfully protected their lead to secure maximum points.

Speaking after the match, Kwara United coach Ashifat Sulyman expressed disappointment over the result but said the coaching team would continue working to recover the lost points.

The defeat leaves Kwara United in 10th place in the NPFL table, while the Harmony Boys will look to get back to winning ways next weekend when they take on the Ranchers Bees in their matchday seven match.
