Immediate Past President of the Island All-Stars Sports Club, Ikenna Maduagwu, applauded the club’s commitment to giving back to society and described its community-focused initiatives as part of a broader vision to build a sustainable institution that endures beyond individual members.
Maduagwu made the comments in an exclusive SPORTS247 interview at the Island All-Stars PatrickLingo Super League at the Lagos Business School, while reflecting on the foundation’s social responsibility initiatives ahead of the club’s flagship Island All-Stars intra-tournament.
According to the former president, supporting communities and vulnerable members of society remains an important Island All-Stars tradition, and the club constantly seeks opportunities to make a positive impact.
“At Island All-Stars, we believe in supporting the communities and environments in which we operate. It has always been part of our tradition to support underprivileged people, schools and indigent patients in hospitals. This is our own way of fulfilling our corporate social responsibility towards the society,” Maduagwu said.
He praised the current leadership for maintaining the culture of giving back and for recognizing the importance of implementing the initiative before the club’s main sporting event.
“Therefore, I congratulate the leadership for considering it worthwhile to carry out this initiative before our flagship event, the Island All-Stars Intratournament,” he added.
For Maduagwu, however, the importance of the initiative goes beyond the immediate beneficiaries. He believes such programs can help establish a strong institutional structure capable of surviving changes in leadership and membership.
“I am particularly pleased because this initiative reflects the importance of building a strong foundation and institutionalizing our programs in a way that allows the organization to outlive individual members,” he said.
The former Island All-Stars president emphasized that continuity remains essential to the long-term success of any organization, noting that members must be able to join at different stages, adopt the existing vision and contribute to already established programs.
“The goal is to build a sustainable institution where anyone can join, embrace the vision and contribute to the continuation of these established initiatives,” Maduagwu explained.
His comments highlight the broader philosophy behind Island All-Stars’ community commitment, where the club seeks to combine sports, networking, friendship and social responsibility.
While the PatrickLingo Super League provides a platform for members to compete and interact through football, the club’s foundation initiatives demonstrate its commitment to extending that impact beyond the sporting environment.
As the Island All-Stars community continues to grow, Maduagwu believes institutionalizing such programs will be critical to preserving the club’s identity and ensuring its culture of service remains intact.
For him, the true measure of success is not simply what the current generation achieves, but what it leaves behind for those who will come after.
