LASU Epe League Player of the Season, Taiwo Adeagbo, has revealed how his team battled their way from second-to-last place in the league standings to become champions, with a dramatic two-goal performance against the Tigers proving crucial to their title ambitions.
In an exclusive interview with Sports247, the 200-level Agriculture student recalled how a difficult campaign gradually transformed into a remarkable championship-winning season.
According to Taiwo, his team’s position near the bottom of the table initially posed a big challenge, but improvements in performance and growing confidence helped them rise to first place.
However, one match in particular against the Tigers stood out.
With his team trailing by one goal, Teekay scored the equalizer before striking again late in the game to secure a crucial victory.
The result kept their championship hopes alive heading into the final game of the season.
Although he eventually emerged as the league’s most outstanding player, Taiwo insisted that winning the championship meant more than receiving individual recognition.
“Honestly, becoming a league champion means more to me because football is a team sport and winning the league was something we all worked for together,” he said.
The striker also revealed that his growing reputation brought additional challenges as opposing teams began to pay more attention to his movements.
As defenders limited his space, he had to adjust his approach and improve his decision-making to remain effective.
Beyond the dramatic victories, Taiwo attributed his development to consistency, discipline and the support of his teammates and coaches.
He admitted that the season was not without setbacks, but maintained that learning to manage pressure helped him become a more mature player.
Despite finishing the campaign with both individual and collective honors, the young man is already looking beyond his achievements.
“I don’t want them to be the pinnacle of my journey,” he said, expressing his determination to improve and compete against stronger opponents.
For Taiwo, the season represented more than a collection of goals and awards.
It was proof that a team struggling near the bottom could bounce back, defy expectations and eventually become champions.
