The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has described President Bola Tinubu as a visionary leader whose policies are bound to have a long-term and lasting positive impact.
The minister stated this during the closing ceremony of the training on the Specialized Border Control and Immigration Management System (BCIMS) at the Immigration Headquarters on Friday in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo noted that Tinubu, under the renewed hope agenda, was building a system that would stand the test of time and be fully effective even after his absence from office.
“President Bola Tinubu has never thought about the immediate, but about the future. He understands that the most prosperous nations don’t boil, cook and eat their seeds, they plant them.
“What this president is doing is planting the seed for there to be abundance for the future,” he said.
The minister said Tinubu recognized that he would not remain in office forever, but the institutions would remain forever and what mattered was what would be passed down from generation to generation.
He commended the President for putting an end to the promotion backlog, noting that no fewer than 50,000 employees have acquired new ranks and assignments in a span of three years.
“It has never happened before, but Tinubu has done it. He has also increased the volume of recruitment, where we now have no less than 40,000 new recruits at one time.
“When it comes to salary increase, Mr. President has done it. He has also done it in terms of hazard pay, peculiar pay,” he said.
Tunji-Ojo further commended Tinubu for his dedication to the welfare of both active and retired personnel, highlighting the increase in pensions of retired Controllers General of Immigration.
“Earlier, CGs had a pension of about N130,000, it was not encouraging. But what did the President do? He signed and approved lifetime salary for CGs and DCGs.”
“This president has taken better care of the services than any other president in the history of Nigeria. He has given it his all.
“And all he asks of us in the service is to do our job well and make Nigerians happy. Everything we asked of him, he has done. This is the least we can do,” he added.
