Uduaghan: Delta declares 3 days of mourning

The Delta State Government has declared a three-day period of mourning in honor of former governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan following his death.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, announcing measures to honor the late former governor.

As part of the arrangements, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ordered that all flags on public buildings across the state be flown at half-mast during the three-day mourning period.

The mourning period began on Monday, October 19, when the state government joined family members, associates and other residents in mourning the former governor.

The statement is an official gesture of respect for Uduaghan and his service to Delta State during his tenure as governor.

Flags at half-mast on the Delta

According to the statement, all public buildings in Delta State must observe the directive by flying their flags at half-mast for the duration of the mourning period.

The measure is part of the state government’s official response to the former governor’s death and is intended to reflect the solemnity of the occasion.

Governor Oborevwori issued the directive as the state pays homage to one of its former leaders.

The three-day observance is expected to last from Monday, October 19 to Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The government announces official mourning arrangements

The announcement was made through the State Government Secretariat, which communicated the directive to the public.

Emu’s statement outlined the government’s decision to set aside three days to honor Uduaghan, with the half-mast directive serving as a visible sign of mourning across the state.

The government did not provide further details in the statement on other activities planned for the mourning period.

Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015, leading the state for two consecutive terms.

His tenure placed him among the state’s leading political figures and his death prompted the state government to formally recognize his service through the declaration of mourning.

The state government’s directive will remain in force for the entire three days, and public institutions will have to comply with the order to fly flags at half-mast.
