Manchester United: Carrick leaves the training ground uncertain about his future

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reportedly left Carrington’s training ground amid growing uncertainty over his future, with the club yet to announce whether he will remain in charge or be sacked.

The development comes a day after United suffered a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League, extending their winless run to eight matches in all competitions and increasing the pressure on the former midfielder. Project reports

Carrick was in Carrington on Monday 26 October as the club’s senior officials considered his future following the latest setback.

Chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox reportedly held discussions at the training complex following Sunday’s defeat at Old Trafford.

Carrick reportedly arrived at the facility to watch a behind-closed-doors match involving Manchester United’s under-21 team and Hull City, while the club’s senior management deliberated on the management situation.

His subsequent departure from the training ground fueled speculation on social media, but he does not independently confirm that he has been sacked.

According to the latest reports reviewed, Manchester United had not officially announced a decision on Carrick’s position.

Bournemouth’s defeat worsens the crisis

Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth intensified the pressure on Carrick, whose team have struggled to maintain consistency during the current season.

United have recorded just two wins in 12 matches in all competitions and are winless in their last eight matches.

The club have also endured a difficult start to their Premier League season, picking up seven points from their opening eight league games and sitting 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.

The result follows a 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League, leaving the team facing growing criticism over their performances.

Carrick took responsibility for the results after the Bournemouth match but offered no guarantees over his future.

He said he understood the situation and would continue to work as normal, adding that he loved the club and would accept whatever decision was made.

The manager also rejected suggestions that his greeting to the fans after the final whistle was intended as a farewell.

Club officials evaluate the next move

Discussions involving Berrada and Wilcox have focused attention on the club’s next decision as United look to arrest their poor run of form.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville and ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher have both publicly questioned whether Carrick should remain in charge following the Bournemouth defeat.

Their comments have strengthened the attention around the coach, although the final decision rests with the club’s management.

Reports have also linked several managers, including Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann, with a possible replacement role should United decide to make a change.

However, no appointment has been confirmed and speculation about potential successors should not be confused with an official decision from the club.

Carrick took over following the departure of Ruben Amorim and helped United secure a third-place finish in the Premier League last season, earning himself a long-term appointment.

The team’s subsequent decline has raised questions about whether it can restore the performances that initially strengthened its position.

For now, the focus remains on the outcome of discussions at Carrington and whether United will retain Carrick or look for a new manager.

His rumored departure from the training ground has added another twist to the developing situation, but only an official announcement from Manchester United will resolve the question of his future.
