Inclusion in Bayelsa Guber Poll Campaign Council of both PDP and APC underscores Wike’s dilemma – The Conclave Online Newspaper

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday, 29th August 2023 took a significant step by appointing Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, as a member of their campaign council for the upcoming Bayelsa governorship election set for November 11, 2023.

This decision followed closely after Wike’s inclusion, just a month prior, in the campaign council of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the same Bayelsa governorship election on August 1.

Notably, Wike has not formally resigned his membership in the PDP.

In an official announcement on Tuesday, the APC unveiled the composition of the Bayelsa Governorship Campaign Council.

The primary objective of this council is to spearhead the gubernatorial campaign within Bayelsa State and ensure the victory of the APC in the forthcoming November 11 gubernatorial election.

Nyesom Wike was included as a member of this council.

The situation surrounding Wike’s dual membership in both major political parties, coupled with his recent inauguration as a minister by President Bola Tinubu, while retaining his affiliation with the PDP, has left many perplexed.

The unique challenge of simultaneously participating in two separate campaign councils from different political parties for the same election has led to confusion among political observers.

Meanwhile, the APC has named Inuwa Yahaya, the Governor of Gombe State, as the chairman of their governorship campaign council in Bayelsa.

Assisting him in this role are Abubakar Badaru, the Minister of Defence; Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President; and Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), who will serve as co-chairmen of the council.
