Finidi stepped down as Super Eagles boss after less than 2 months in charge

Super Eagles coach George Finidi has reportedly dumped the team after less than two months in charge.

The former Nigeria international, who took over the position on 29 April 2024, resigned following the team’s poor performance.

Finidi’s main task will be to help Nigeria qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with their team already behind in the race before he was appointed.

The Eagles failed to beat South Africa on matchday three of the qualifying series, with a 1-1 draw in Uyo.

The pressure intensified on Finidi after the Eagles suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Benin Republic in their matchday four encounter.

This result leaves Nigeria in 5th place in the Group, leaving the team with a higher mountain to climb in their race for a place in the global competition.

On Saturday, news spread on social media that the manager had quit his job, and this was confirmed by various news outlets in the country.

Every attempt to contact Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) officials prior to this report, proved unsuccessful.

The truth of the entire resignation story and the possible reasons why the former player decided to quit are not yet known.
