Suspected armed robbers have killed a retired army general in Abuja

Suspected armed robbers on Saturday morning killed one Uwem Udokwere, a retired brigadier general, in Abuja.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday evening.

He said the FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, had ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

The statement read: โ€œIn response to the tragic and unprecedented attack on the Sunshine Homes estate by armed robbers, which resulted in the death of one Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (retd) on 22 June 2024, at approximately 03:00am, the Commissioner The Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, immediately ordered a thorough and judicious investigation into the circumstances surrounding this regrettable incident.

โ€œExpressing his deep condolences to the bereaved family, CP Benneth Igweh assured the family and community of speedy justice, with all efforts to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice.

โ€œFurthermore, the police commissioner reiterated the command’s steadfast commitment to strengthening the security landscape of the nation’s capital, by continuously adapting strategies to effectively combat the growing criminal activities.

โ€œAn update on this matter will be provided in due course.โ€
