Davido may drop Imade’s custody battle after Sophia Momodu comments on Ifeanyi’s death in her lawsuit

Nigerian pop star David Adeleke popularly known in the music world as Davido has dropped the biggest hint yet about ending his daughter Imade’s custody battle after his baby’s mother Sophia Momodu made a statement about Ifeanyi’s death.

Davido made the remark after she filed a counter-suit with the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, against Davido’s request to be granted custody of their daughter, Imade.

The suit, marked LD/1587PMC/2024, was filed by the applicant Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke, while Mrs. Sophia Momodu was listed as the sole Respondent. The mother of one stated that their daughter “is still a minor (9 years old) and as her mother, she has lived with me all her life and I am responsible for her welfare, care and well-being.”

Sophia pleaded with the court in her petition that the Petitioner’s unconventional lifestyle “will expose our daughter to worse trauma at a young age” and that the father should not be given custody of their daughter.

“That the Petitioner, in her capacity as an artist, is always traveling and allows many unpleasant male adults to be around her and her home, which would not be a good influence on a young, impressionable girl child, like our daughter,” said the Respondent, citing additional reasons why custody should not be granted to the Petitioner.

“The Applicant does not agree to child therapy because the Applicant has been separated from our daughter for a long time and establishing a meaningful presence in our daughter’s life in a safe and sustainable manner is of utmost importance.

“The applicant is an artist who is always traveling around the world in accordance with the demands of his career and cannot possibly be with our daughter at critical times.

“The applicant is married to another woman, and they live together. Proper care for our daughter by another person cannot be guaranteed.

“The fact that the Petitioner lost her son in her home under rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the Petitioner’s custody,” the lawsuit reads in part.

Responding to a petition filed by the mother of his first child, Davido criticized Sophia for frequently bringing up the death of her son, Ifeanyi, in a post on her Instagram page.

The singer also appeared to abruptly withdraw from their daughter’s custody battle, telling Sophia, “You can have her.”

”You keep bringing up my daughter’s death at any time, just to remind us of the tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives. Imade will grow up and see me fighting for her.. for now you can have her.. PS she won’t be a child forever.. enjoy Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you!” Davido wrote on Twitter.
