Total blackout occurs as Nigeria’s electricity grid collapses again – fourth time in 2024

The national power grid collapsed again on Saturday afternoon.

The incident, the fourth this year, is expected to cause a total power outage in the country.

Nigeria recorded its last power grid failure on April 15.

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Company’s Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh.

The company said it was unable to provide services to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states due to a lack of supply across the network.

The statement read: “Enugu Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform its esteemed customers of a general system failure that occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July 2024. This resulted in a loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.

“As a result of this development, all our interface TCN stations are no longer available, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

“We are on standby awaiting detailed information on the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre, Osogbo.”
