LASTMA denies involvement in man’s suicide death

The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) has distanced itself from the discovery of the body of a man hanging from a tree not far from its office on the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway.

In a statement issued on Friday, LASTMA Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, responded to rumors circulating online that the agency was involved in the man’s death.

“Some speculations arose from sympathizers present at the scene,” Adebayo said. “Some said he was dressed like a motorcycle rider (Okada rider), while others speculated he was a tricycle rider (Marwa rider).

He also denied rumors circulating on social media stating that the victim’s vehicle was confiscated by BPBD officers.

The statement further clarified that the body was discovered Thursday morning by a passerby who immediately reported it to the Shagamu Road Police Station.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stressed, “Our officers are not responsible for the bodies found hanging at the gate of the estate.

“Some even believe that he was taken to the scene by his killers in the early hours of the night, and staged in such a way that it looked like a suicide because the victim’s feet touched the ground.

“In short, no one could identify him as an okada rider or Marwa among the several okada and Marwa operators who visited the scene.”

The cause of death and the man’s identity are still being investigated by police.
