Court orders final seizure of properties linked to former NAPL boss

Justice Chukujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Wednesday, ordered the final forfeiture of five properties linked to the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), Major General Umaru Mohammed to the Federal Government.

The judge made the order following a submission by the lawyer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AO Mohammed.

Justice Aneke on March 4 ordered the provisional seizure of the properties and directed the commission to publish an order in a national newspaper for anyone interested to show cause why the properties should not be permanently seized to the Federal Government.

The EFCC in its summary of arguments told the court that the properties situated in Lagos had been fraudulently misappropriated and the proceeds of the sale diverted for the personal use of the military officer.

The properties are No.8b, Bedwell Road, Ikoyi; No.3, Force Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; No.14, Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; No.6, Marina, Ikoyi, Lagos and No.28, Point Road, Apapa, Lagos.

In court on Wednesday, Mohammed said the EFCC had complied with court orders regarding the property.

He urged the court to order the final forfeiture of the property to the government.
