US President Joe Biden has endorsed the candidacy of his Vice President Kamala Harris as the new Democratic presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
Biden made the announcement on his official X page on Sunday, shortly after withdrawing from the November US presidential election.
He explained that it was in the interest of his party and the country to step down and focus exclusively on fulfilling his duties as President for the remainder of his term.
“Dear Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party’s nominee in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it was the best decision I ever made.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats, it’s time to unite and beat Trump. Let’s do it,” he added.
