The Lagos State Government said on Wednesday that the state’s Red Line Railway Public Transport (LRMT) will commence operations in September.
The Managing Director of the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, disclosed this at a press conference organised by the Ministry of Transport and its agencies on Tuesday in Lagos.
He said the Red Line rail was 99 percent ready and would start operating in the last quarter of this year.
Akinajo, who was represented at the briefing by the agency’s Director of Railways, Mr. Olasukanmi Okusaga, said technical trials for the Red Line system had begun before September.

He said: “The train will make four trips per day from Oyingbo to Agbado at 8:30am and 12:30pm and this will last for four weeks.”
Additionally, the Managing Director of Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), Mr. Idowu Oguntona, said the company has provided transportation to two million Lagos residents since May till date.
Oguntona added that LBSL has a fully accredited high capacity training school for drivers.
“We have also set a Sustainability Policy to decarbonize our fleet and this will help us to be environmentally responsible,” he said.
The General Manager of the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), Mr. Rasheed Muri-Okunola, noted that the authority has automated its systems to ensure smooth service delivery.
“We are working hard to ensure smooth service delivery, and the time to obtain vehicle plate numbers has been reduced to 36 hours from 48 hours.
“MVAA is working with the Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority to make this happen and we have one-stop centres in Ikorodu, Lekki, Agbado and others,” he said.
