The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has taken swift action against one of its personnel, Akomolafe Gbenga Michael, stationed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, by suspending him over various allegations of drug trafficking.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by NIS Spokesperson, DCI Kenneth Udo, the officer is currently facing charges at a Federal High Court in Lagos. The service has commenced internal proceedings and placed Michael on suspension from May 2024, pending the court’s determination of his guilt or otherwise.
He said; “The Department wishes to inform the public that the officer in question has undergone an internal process and has been suspended following his alleged involvement in the case in May 2024.

“Therefore, the Service fully supports the court process which aims to determine the level of guilt.
“The Nigerian Immigration Service awaits the court ruling before commenting further on the matter to avoid sub judice.”
The NIS has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing discipline and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards criminality within its ranks.
“The service reaffirms its commitment to providing excellent service, discipline and zero tolerance for criminal acts and will not hesitate to sanction officers whose conduct is contrary to these ideals,” the statement read.
By temporarily suspending the officer and supporting the judicial process, the Service demonstrated its dedication to ensuring that its personnel adhere to the highest standards of integrity.
