Former Atiku spokesman visits Tinubu again, confirms switch to APC

Daniel Bwala, former spokesman for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, paid a solidarity visit to President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday in Abuja.

Bwala, who spoke to State House reporters at the end of the meeting, said he visited the president to show solidarity with what he was doing to address some of the concerns raised by Nigerians.

He said the planned demonstration against poor governance in this country was largely politically motivated.

Bwala has met President Tinubu at least four times since the President took office on May 29 last year.

He said: “Because if you look at some of the issues that are being raised by the people who are planning to protest, they are talking about hunger in the country, lack of transportation, minimum wage for workers, and Mr. President has taken good steps.

“He has approved a new minimum wage, which is now law. We have seen truckloads of food being delivered to Nigerians, and in the coming days, more will be done in that regard.

“Everyone in Nigeria recognises that there is suffering and that suffering did not start last year.

“There is no easy reform. Go to Brazil, or any part of the world, if you want to make reforms, it is not going to be easy.

“That means we all have to adapt. But the role of the government when starting reform is to intervene, which is the President’s job.”

He said regional government autonomy was a smart move because it brought government down to the grassroots.

“So, I came to celebrate, to encourage and to show our solidarity and to call on Nigerians to unite in support of the President.

“We only have one President, and for me, patriotism is defending the leader, patriotism is showing support and making sure that we push for the development of this country.

“What’s interesting to me in this whole situation is that the President has a strong understanding of what’s going on in the country, the plight of the Nigerian people, and he has shown his concern,” the lawyer-turned-politician added.

Bwala said he had officially left the Peoples Democratic Party and decided to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“So, yeah, I’m on my way to APC and that’s where I’ve always been.

“Remember, I have been in the APC for eight years, since the time of President Buhari.

“I left because of differences, but I am back, and this time it is not about party, it is about us coming together as one country to make sure that this country not only survives, but also stays on the right track.

“When the political time comes, those who are there will do it. However, I am fully committed to President Bola Tinubu and in the next few days I will officially return to the APC,” he concluded.
