Abiodun emerges as president of the Southern Governors’ Forum and calls for regional cohesion

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Monday emerged as the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum through the consensus of the sixteen governors present at the meeting held in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

It would be recalled that the late Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State led the forum until his demise in 2023.

Announcing the resolution of the Southern State leaders after the meeting, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, said the forum’s decision was unanimous and in line with their belief in Abiodun’s leadership acumen to lead the forum successfully.

In his reaction, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him to take on the role of leader of the forum, as he promised to lead with inclusiveness and efficiency.

He added that he will work diligently with his deputy, Professor Charles Soludo, who is the governor of Anambra State, to proactively address key issues of regional interests.

“This is truly a significant honor bestowed upon me by my esteemed colleagues, and I deeply appreciate their confidence in my leadership. Together, we will strive to ensure quality governance in all our States and collectively generate exceptional regional development across Southern Nigeria.

“I also extend my congratulations to my colleague, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, who has been elected as the Vice President.”
