The House of Assembly primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday unfolded peacefully in the 26 state constituencies in Ogun State, as party faithful flocked in large numbers to the designated polling centers as early as 9am.

Reports monitored across the State indicated that the exercise was orderly, transparent and free of violence, with party members actively participating in the direct primaries.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after contesting the House of Assembly primary elections in District 3, Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, Governor Dapo Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and political harmony in the state.

The governor described the primary elections as peaceful, transparent and a true reflection of intra-party democracy, underscoring the need for peace and harmony at a time when political activities have intensified across the country.

Governor Abiodun expressed satisfaction with the conduct of party members, delegates and election officials, noting that the peaceful atmosphere further demonstrated the maturity, unity and discipline of the APC in the state.

He urged Mr Seyi Olumuyiwa, who emerged victorious in the constituency, to be magnanimous in victory and provide quality representation for the people and the party in the overall interest of the constituency and the APC if ultimately elected.

The governor also appreciated the other aspirants for embracing the consensus agreement introduced by the party and showing sportsmanship throughout the process.

According to him, the APC remains a united family committed to strengthening democracy and ensuring quality representation to the people.

Governor Abiodun also commended party members, security agencies and the media for their contribution to the successful conduct of the party primary elections across the state from Saturday, stressing that his administration had succeeded in changing the political narrative by ensuring that the era of criminality and hooliganism in politics had become a thing of the past.

Declaring the result after the exercise, the APC Returning Officer for Ikenne Local Government, Dr Femi Akinbile, disclosed that a total of 830 members of the party were accredited for the election, while Mr Seyi Olumuyiwa polled 825 votes to emerge victorious.

Dr. Akinbile commended the party faithful for their orderly conduct, stressing that their behavior contributed to the smooth and smooth conduct of the exercise.

Speaking after being declared the winner, Olumuyiwa appreciated Governor Abiodun and other members of the party for the confidence reposed in him, vowing to justify the mandate through focused representation and inclusive leadership.

In Odeda Local Government Area, the direct primary elections to elect the APC House of Assembly candidate for Odeda State Constituency also took place peacefully in all 10 districts, with impressive voter turnout recorded in several polling units.

Consensus candidate and Speaker of Ogun State Assembly, Daisi Elemide, cast his vote in District 1, Odeda Local Government, where he secured 2,115 votes from enthusiastic party members.

In Opeji Ward 10, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, who chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber ​​Security, participated in the exercise alongside party members. Department reports describe the trial as peaceful and well attended.

In the Olodo 3 neighborhood, the neighborhood councilor, Hon. Sina Ebenezer Semilore, confirmed that 899 votes were recorded in favor of the consensus candidate, Rt. Hon. Daisi Elemide.

Likewise, voters in Orile-Ilugun District 5 participated en masse, with reports indicating that the voting process was smooth, transparent and incident-free. Other local government districts also concluded their primaries peacefully.

Reacting to the exercise, a party leader in Opeji 3 ward, Hon. Fijabi Daniel, praised the conduct of the primaries.

“I have participated in many primaries, but this one stands out. It was peaceful, transparent and the vote of every card-carrying member counted. We are proud of our president, the Honorable Daisi Elemide, and we stand firmly by him,” he said.

Also, Mrs. Tope Adebesin of Olodo Ward 3 commended the peaceful conduct of the party members during the exercise.

“The exercise went smoothly from morning to night. There was no fighting, no shouting. We came, voted and went home happy. Honorable Sina Ebenezer Semilore did a great job mobilizing us. This is the democracy we want,” he said.

A youth mobilizer from Orile-Ilugun Ward 5, Comrade Lekan Soyoye, described the operation as a positive sign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“What we saw today gives us hope for 2027. The President has done well for Odeda and we have shown our support in a peaceful way. Other local governments should learn from us. Congratulations to Honorable Daisi Elemide,” he said.

With the successful conclusion of primaries in the 10 Odeda local government wards, the APC now shifts focus to the 2027 general elections, with party members expressing confidence in the emergence of consensus candidates across the state.
