ADC appointed foreign envoys to expose alleged undemocratic actions by the Nigerian government

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) said it has appointed envoys in 12 foreign cities to draw attention to Nigeria’s democracy and the government’s actions.

The party also noted that the initiative aims to expose “a growing pattern of undemocratic practices and attacks on opposition members” in Nigeria.

This was announced on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to him, the initiative entitled “Special Representative Network (SRN) in major foreign capitals” aims to strengthen international engagement and encourage democratic accountability.

Since July 2025, there have been attempts “to destabilize opposition parties, weaken legitimate party leadership structures, and limit democratic political participation,” he said.

He said the SRN will establish a structured communication channel between the ADC and international stakeholders, including foreign governments, parliamentary institutions, global media organizations and diaspora communities.

He explained that the designated envoys will act as points of contact in their respective locations, providing briefings on Nigeria’s political climate.

“The envoys will brief their host countries on Nigeria’s political environment, including governance, human rights issues, election integrity, and alleged repression of opposition actors,” Abdullahi said, adding that they would also communicate party policy positions and reform proposals.

The initiative, he said, was designed to position the ADC as a “responsible democratic actor” and a viable alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The party lists Washington DC, London, Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa, Paris, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Geneva and New York as designated engagement capitals.

As part of the effort, Abdullahi said his party would also launch a national documentation framework to track incidents affecting political participation across the country.

“Party structures in the state will collect information on incidents including threats, harassment, violent attacks, arbitrary arrests and disruption of political activities,” he said.
