ADC Introduction: Hayatu-Deen rules out litigation, urges united opposition

A presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has ruled out litigation over the results of the May 25 presidential primaries.

Former Vice President Atiku defeated Hayatu-Deen and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to elect the ADC presidential ticket in the 2027 elections.

However, two other factions in the ADC led by former presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu and former deputy national chairman, Nafiu Bala-Gombe, held parallel primaries and produced separate candidates for the party.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Hayatu-Deen expressed concern over alleged irregularities and procedural irregularities during the exercise.

He noted that the process fell short of his expectations.

The prospective candidate stated that his decision not to challenge the results of the primaries held across the country was made through careful reflection and extensive consultation.

He emphasized that a strong, credible and united opposition is more important than personal ambitions or temporary political disappointments.

The aspiring candidate said he joined ADC because he believes the party offers an opportunity to build a credible opposition platform based on integrity, internal democracy and national renewal.

“Everywhere I go, I encounter what I describe as the silent majority. They are Nigerians who still believe that leadership is important,” said Hayatu-Deen.

He said he had personally raised his concerns about the primary process with party leadership and expressed confidence that the process would be reviewed.
