Akwa Ibom veterans journalists created a panel of 5 men for the inauguration of New Exco
Uyo (basic reporter) The state-of-the-League of the League of Veteran Journalists Akwa Ibom has constituted a group of five men from a former state information commissioner and members of the Nigerian Guild of publishers (NGE) to develop a program for the inauguration of the newly allocated official electrics of the League.
The panel of five men who have three weeks to conclude his assignment, starting from Monday 4 August 2025, is saddened by the responsibility of choosing a location, date and time adequate for the event.
The box will also list guests of the media event for the media event and their roles, where applicable, as well as providing everything that is necessary for the occasion including logistics.
In a declaration made public in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital, by the League’s secretary, Akanimo Sampson, those exploited to serve in the panel are:
Samuel Enobong Akpan, the consultant manager of the FM Comfort Radio Station as president; Mrs. Christy Obot, former state information commissioner; Obita Ekanem, a main member of the NGE and a retired chief of the Pioneer newspaper; Grace Utuk; And the former general manager of Comfort FM, Eddy Ekpenyong, who is a secretary of the panel.
The newly elected president of the League, Soney Antai, former president of the State Council of the Union of Journalists of Nigeria (Nuj) said that their selection is based on merit following their experience in the public service.
In the meantime, the League is ready to develop and implement training programs for journalists in the state, focusing on ethical reports, control of facts and critical analysis.
In his post-electoral discourse, Antai promised that the Executive Committee of the League under his watch will promote a culture of integrity and journalistic professionalism to combat disinformation and disinformation.
“We will try to provide technical support for independent media in the state to improve press freedom, their sustainability, ability and scope, in an attempt to ensure that they provide reliable and different information sources of the public,” said Atai.
After their formal inauguration ceremony, the League said that will increase awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and its role in supporting democracy in Nigeria.
“We will strongly support the legal protections for journalists, the freedom of information and the elimination of censorship,” added the group.
