Al Shabaab fighters on Wednesday attacked a city in Central Somalia that had been used by government forces to ride back militants.
Adan Yabaal, the city was attacked, located about 245 kilometers north of Mogadishu and has been used as an operating base for raids in Al Shabaab.
Progress by Al Qaeda affiliation, which includes briefly capturing villages within a distance of 50 km (30 miles) from Mogadishu in March, has left the population of the capital at the edge in the middle of rumors that can be targeted by Al Shabaab.

The army told reporters that the army had reclaimed the villages.
However, Al-Shabaab continued to advance in the countryside, led the government to mobilize police officers and prison guards to support the military.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who came from the area, visited Adan Yabaal in March to meet with military commanders about strengthening them.
