Allowances obtained: The Nigerian government releases N50BN to Asuu, others

The federal government has released N50 billion for the University Academic Staff (ASUU) and other trade unions for the completion of the benefits obtained at the institution.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tupi Alausa, revealed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Press Director at the Ministry, Folasade Boriowo.

The National Academic Technology Association (NAAT) last week accused the Federal government of playing double standards for payment of allowances obtained.

The Uni condemned the discriminatory acts of the federal government over the allowance and warned that it was a threat to the harmony of the industry in these institutions.

The Minister said: “This reflects the brave determination of the government to transmit the country from resources based on resources to knowledge -based economics through strategic investment in education, infrastructure and human resources.

“This intervention is not only financial transactions, but is also a reinforcement of our president’s belief in the capacity of Nigerian youth and the invaluable role played by academic and non-academic staff in maintaining them.

“By prioritizing their welfare, we put the foundation for the future where every Nigerian child receives a very qualitative and competitive education globally.”

He thanked Asuu and other trade unions for their trust in the government and for fostering an atmosphere of peace and cooperation in all federal institutions of the country.

“Specifically, this country is experiencing one of the longest academic sessions that are not interrupted in this new history.

“This is an achievement associated with mutual understanding and joint commitment between the government and the university community,” Alausa added.
