Amid service disruptions, Zenith, First bank warns customers against fraudsters

As First Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc continue to battle service disruptions, the tier 1 banks have warned millions of customers to be alert to the activity of fraudsters who may ask for their details in the guise of helping resolve the issue.

In different posts on their social media platforms, banks warned that they will never ask for details of their customers while cautioning customers against disclosing the same.

Ripples Nigeria reports that both tier 1 banks have experienced service disruptions as their mobile applications, Unstructured Ancillary Services Data (USSD), Internet Banking and Corporate Internet Banking platforms are down leaving millions of customers stranded.

In a message on X, the first bank apologized to its customers while revealing that its technicians were working to ensure services were fully restored.

However, according to the bank’s statement on Wednesday, it was disclosed that USSD and First Online and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are available for transactions.”

“We recognize that you may experience some challenges in transacting on our FirstMobile platform.”

“We apologize and ask that you be patient as we work to fix this issue in the shortest time possible. Our alternative channels – First Online, USSD (*894#) and ATM are available for you to use to carry out your transactions now.”

But the bank asked its customers to be alert to fraudsters as it tries to fix the problem.

“As we work to fix this issue, please be alert for fraudsters who may try to request your banking information for fraudulent purposes.

“Thank you for your patience. We will provide an update soon,” he said.

Similarly, Zenith Bank warned its customers not to reveal their details to anyone.

“Zenith Bank will NEVER call, send SMS or email to ask for your card details, PIN, Token code, Mobile/Internet Banking login details or any other account related information.

We also NEVER ask you to click a link to update your banking information or activate your account. If you receive such a message, please DO NOT respond” it warned.
