Amnesty urged Tinubu to act on university lecturers, kidnapping dadiyata 6 years later

Amnesty International in Nigeria on Saturday urged President Tinubu Bola President to put personal interest in the unresolved university lecturer case, Abubakar Idris, alias Dadiyata, six years after his abduction by unknown people.

Dadiyata, a social critic, was kidnapped on August 2, 2019, by masked armed people at the gate of his house in Kaduna and has not been seen since then.

Director of State Amnesty International Nigeria, Mr. Isa Sanusi, made a call at a press briefing in Kaduna, to mark the sixth warning of the disappearance of Dadiyata.

He urged Tinubu to show leadership by ensuring a credible investigation of this case and bringing answers to the family.

Sanusi described “forced disappearances” as a serious violation of human rights under international law and urged the president to ensure that these practices were not tolerated in Nigeria.

“President Tinubu must be interested in the Dadiyata case and direct security agent to express what has been done to find it.

“Family and Nigeria deserve the truth, not silence,” said Director of Amnesty.

Dadiyata’s brother, Usman Idris, said the family had experienced trauma and heartbreak, including losing their mother and uncle, amid the uncertainty about his fate.

He added that their father’s health had worsened because of emotional pressure for years, while the family continued to wait for justice.

The victim’s wife, Khadija was paralyzed, said their children grew without their father and continued to ask painful questions about their existence.

He appealed to the president and security agent to intervene and end the old family suffering.
