Anambra: the Catholic priest collapses, D! Eg while playing tennis

The tragedy hit Awka, in the state of Anambra, when the reverend Father Anthony Udogu of the Catholic Diocese of Awka collapsed and died while playing garden tennis in the premises of the Cathedral of San Patrizio.

The tragic accident was confirmed in an official declaration issued by the diocesan chancellor, Rev Fr Charles Ndubuisi.

“With faith in the resurrection of the Lord, Awka’s Catholic diocese announces the disappearance of our priest brother, Rev Anthony Udogu, whose sudden death occurred in the early hours of today”, read the declaration.

According to the diocese, Fr Udogu collapsed while playing tennis and was immediately brought to a hurry in a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, all the efforts to revive him proved without success.

Until his death, Udogu was the parish priest of San Francesco di Assisi, Awka and the decek Deanery II dean. It was widely respected for its leadership, dedication to the pastoral service and commitment to the development of the community.

The Catholic diocese expressed condolences to his family, to the parishioners and all those who cry his loss, ensuring that the details of his burial will be announced in debt time.

“May the soul of Rev Anthony Nnaemeka Udogu rest in the breast of the Lord,” concluded the declaration.
