Anders Lind became the first player to successfully defend the men’s singles title at the WTT Contender Lagos after defeating Oh Junsung in Sunday’s final at the Sir Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall in Lagos.

The Danish star produced another composed performance to secure a 4-1 victory over the Korean rival in a close match despite the scoreline. Lind claimed the first three games before Junsung fought back to take the fourth, but the defending champion regained control to seal the title in the fifth game.

Speaking after the win, Lind praised the Lagos crowd for creating a special atmosphere throughout the tournament. “I’m very happy right now. It’s one of the best feelings in the world, it’s not common to win tournaments,” he said. “Being the first player to retain the title is fantastic. It’s difficult to do something that no one has done before, so I’m very proud to have defended my title here. Make it three.”

In the women’s singles final, Satsuki Odo produced one of the standout performances of the tournament to dethrone defending champion Honoka Hashimoto with a resounding 4-1 victory. Odo’s aggressive attacking approach consistently broke down Hashimoto’s defensive style as he cruised to his third WTT Series title of the season. Hashimoto had reached the final in dominant form after topping the previous rounds, but struggled to cope with Odo’s relentless pace and precision.

The doubles events also produced memorable moments as India’s Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah captured the men’s doubles title with a back-to-back victory over Romania’s Iulian Chirita and Andrei Istrate. In women’s doubles, debuting pair Joo Cheonhui and Reina Aso shocked top seeds Saki Shibata and Hitomi Sato after bouncing back from a loss in the first game. Shah later returned with Diya Chitale to win the mixed doubles title and cap a successful week for the Indian contingent at the WTT Contender Lagos 2026.
