Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has disavowed the so-called APC consensus agreement in Imo North, saying he had no role in the choice of Senator Patrick Ndubueze as the party’s anointed candidate.

In a statement from his press office, Araraume said he was never consulted, nor participated in any meeting or negotiation that produced the announcement.

He described the move as unilateral and undemocratic, arguing that it did not reflect what APC stakeholders in the six LGAs of Okigwe zone wanted.

“At no time have I been part of any discussions or agreements to adopt a consensus candidate. Any such claims are false, misleading and unacceptable,” Araraume said. “Imo North has a proud tradition of democratic engagement and I firmly support free and fair competition.”

He warned that imposing a candidate under the banner of “consensus” could widen cracks in the party and jeopardize its chances in the general election.

Araraume urged delegates and party members to remain calm and abide by due process as the APC heads into the senatorial primaries.

He said he was ready to participate in “any primary that follows party rules and electoral law.”

The APC is expected to hold Imo North primaries soon.
