Army steps up fight against insecurity as 8,000 soldiers graduate from Osogbo depot

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has strengthened the operational capability of the Nigerian Army with the graduation of over 8,000 newly trained soldiers from the Nigerian Army Depot, Osogbo.

Blueprint reports that this is part of deliberate efforts to strengthen manpower and improve ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other emerging security threats across the country.
A statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, noted that the Passing Out Parade, held on Saturday, represents another significant milestone in the Nigerian Army’s commitment to building a highly professional, combat-ready and mission-oriented force capable of effectively supporting the achievement of Nigeria’s national security objectives.

The COAS said the recruitment is part of the Federal Government’s directive, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the Nigerian Army to recruit 28,000 additional personnel to strengthen its force structure.

He noted that the initiative aims to address current manpower needs, improve operational effectiveness and enhance the Army’s ability to respond decisively to the country’s evolving security challenges.

Lieutenant General Shaibu said the recruits underwent rigorous military training aimed at developing the physical endurance, tactical proficiency, leadership qualities and fighting spirit required for contemporary military operations.

He stressed that they will be joining the Nigerian Army at a critical period where troops remain actively engaged in multiple theaters of operation in defense of Nigeria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and protection of lives and property.

He then charged new soldiers to maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, courage, loyalty and selfless service throughout their military careers.

The COAS also reminded the soldiers that significant national resources have been invested in their recruitment, training and development, underscoring the confidence reposed in them by the nation.

He urged them to remain steadfast, resilient and committed to duty, conducting all operations in accordance with established military ethics, professionalism and the highest standards of respect for human rights. He expressed confidence that the newly graduated personnel will significantly strengthen the ongoing operations and contribute significantly to enhancing security and restoring lasting peace across the country.

Earlier, the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, congratulated the graduating soldiers for successfully completing their training and commended their resilience, discipline and determination.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Osun State Government to support the armed forces in their efforts to preserve peace, security and national development, while urging the new soldiers to remain devoted to the service of the nation.
