The Nigerian police force, through the National Central Bureau of Interpol, arrested and repatriated a notorious Beninese fugitive, Sunday Kotin, to the authorities of the Republic of Benin.
The head of public relations, the CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a Sunday declaration, said that Interpol Benin requested the assistance of Nigeria to arrest Kotin for his alleged involvement in bandits armed cross -border, smuggling of firearms, rustling of livestock and drug trafficking.
The investigations revealed that seven members of the Kotin band are already facing a trial in Benin, while he has fled to Nigeria to evade the arrest.
By acting in credible intelligence, the NPF-NCB agents launched a discreet operation in IDI IROKO, area of the local government of Hypokia in the state of Ogun, leading to his capture.
He was later questioned and delivered to Interpol’s officials in Cotonou.
The police inspector general, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the agents for their professionalism, underlining that Nigeria would never have been a safe refuge for criminals, regardless of their networks or influence.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of force in protecting the sovereignty of Nigeria, strengthening international cooperation and intensifying the fight against transnational crime
