The deputy governor of the state of Bayelsa, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, challenged the Ijaw youth advice (IYC) to be more intellectual in pursuing shared dreams and aspirations of ethnic nationality of Ijaw in Nigeria.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo said it when he received the president and members of the Boro Day planning committee from 2025, under the auspices of the IYC central area, in his office in Government House, Yenagoa.

He advised Ijawland’s young people against the armed struggle, stressing that the age of the militancy had long since disappeared, having served his purpose shortly after the famous Kaiama declaration.

By underlining the importance of education, the deputy governor recommended the use of effective intellectual commitments in the fight against inequality, marginalization and deprivation of the rights and legitimate interests of Ijaw people.

He wondered why IYC did not add his voice to current calls and public speech for the creation of multiple local governments in the country, above all because he influenced Bayelsa’s state.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo complained that Bayelsa, with only eight local governments, has been seriously changed over the years, despite his enormous contribution to Nigeria’s economic survival.

He accused the Boro Day planning committee of 2025 to conceive programs and activities that would have added value to the life of the Ijaw people, observing that the Ijaw’s struggle that Boro Epitomized had passed through the use of weapons in the battlefield of the intellectual commitment.

The deputy governor advised Iys to collaborate and synchronize his activities for the celebration of Boro Day with that of the state ministry of IJAW national affairs to avoid unnecessary duplications and achieve success.

His words: “We should celebrate Boro Day in a way that adds value to the life of the Ijaw people. Therefore, IYC should collaborate with the Ministry of State of Bayelsa of the national affairs of IJAW to harmonize the program for the celebration of the day of Boro to avoid unnecessary duplication of events.

“The struggle is now intellectual; it is no longer an armed struggle of the past. IYC should oppose cultural and abuse of drugs among our young people.

“IYC should actually recalibrate its desires and motivation. We need an intellectual commitment of the state and federal governments in a very responsible and respectable way.

“We expect that IYC is attentive and sensitive to what is happening around us and within this country. For some time, people speak of the creation of the local government in this country. How did IYC lent its voice to that speech?”

In his observations, the president of the IYC 2025 Boro Day planning Committee, Evangelist Parkins Ogede, explained that the visit had to order the state government of the activities of the IYC central area for the day of Boro this year and to seek the government’s support in terms of financing.

Evangelist Parkins, who thanked the deputy governor for the granting of the public of the Committee with a very short notice, informed that events include Inter-Lga cultural exhibitions, regatta for Oxbow Lake boats, a public lesson of the Boro Day memorial, among others.
