Binance files new request for Gambaryan’s release

Cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance Holdings Limited on Tuesday filed a fresh appeal to the Federal Government to release its detained executive, Tigran Gambaryan.

The platform also expressed its readiness to โ€œresolve any alleged past issuesโ€ with the Nigerian government as it has done with the governments of Brazil and India where the platform has recently been involved in legal disputes.

The platform in a series of statements sent to Ripples Nigeria by its spokesperson, said: โ€œA video circulating shows the abuse and suffering he went through.

โ€œThe judge ordered that Tigran be allowed to use a wheelchair, with a bail hearing to resume on September 4. We share Binanceโ€™s official statement on the matter.

โ€œWe are deeply saddened by the video of Tigran in court yesterday. This video is just a snapshot of Tigranโ€™s current reality. His health is in serious decline and we are deeply concerned about the long-term consequences of this unjust detention.

“Nigeria does not need to detain Tigran for us to resolve alleged past issues. We continue to appeal to the Nigerian Government to allow Tigran to return home and allow us to continue our engagement.

โ€œOur recent resolutions with Brazil and India demonstrate how historical issues can be resolved through constructive dialogue and adherence to legal standards. These are international standards for doing business.โ€

Gambaryan was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on money laundering charges on Monday.

When he appeared, Gambaryan was denied use of a wheelchair and had to enter court on crutches in visible pain and distress.

His lawyers have applied for fresh bail on medical grounds.

They also suspect that there were restrictions on access to the accused.

However, the Commission for the Eradication of Economic and Financial Crimes (KPK) opposed the bail application.
