Convert the housing estate recovered by EMEFIELE in LG- Economist connection offices

Prof. Salisu Usman, a political economist and development specialist, asked for the conversion of the recovered housing estate of the former Governor of the CBN Godwin Emefiele in the connection offices for the areas of the local government 774.

Usman, in a Sunday declaration in Lokoja, said that this would guarantee each advice that he had a physical presence in the capital of the nation and collaborate with the ministries and agencies of the federal government.

The Federal Government has decided to sell the 753 housing units confiscated by Emefiele to the Nigerians after a declaration of final decline by the judiciary.

The properties were recovered by the Commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC) and the structural integrity test would have been performed before the sale.

This was disclosed in a joint declaration by the Federal Ministry for Housing Building and Urban Development and recently the EFCC.

The property covers over 150,000 square meters and consists of duplex and other types of apartments.

According to Usman, the conversion of these properties to national connection offices will promote national representation, administrative convenience and unity.

“Each LGA would have a physical presence in the territory of federal capital (FCT), symbolizing national inclusion and strengthening its identity as fundamental components of governance.

“The proposal will guarantee administrative utility, since the property could act as an official connection offices for local governments to interface with the ministries, agencies and federal development partners.

“It would also reduce the costs for housing for the presidents, officials or delegations of the local government that visit the FCT. Furthermore, it will promote the national unity and will generate revenue for each LGA through commercial initiatives,” he said.

The academic world has recommended that the cost of construction of the 21 extra units and the completion of the existing ones should be equally deducted by federal allocations monthly to the advice for a period of time.

This approach, he said, would guarantee the success of the project and strengthen the federal system of Nigeria.

He added that the initiative would be a Legacy project, giving each part of Nigeria a physical imprint in the capital and strengthening basic governance at national level.
