CSO Clash on alleged undue appropriation of N234 billion against PGI

A coalition of civil society organizations (CSO) collided for new accusations of financial undue appropriation for the melody of ₦ 234 billion years leded against the police inspector, Kayode Egbetokun, with a ferocious refutation from a group of liability of the longtime police..

The controversy, which broke out during a round table on the police reform and on the liability held in Abuja Tuesday, saw the scruples defense and advancement center in Africa (paaa) accuse PGI Egbetokun of misconduct financial conduct that involved budgetary allocations, suspicious contract prizes and provision of police activities.

The executive director of Paaca, Ezenwa Nwagwu, said that the organization has presented a petition to the independent corrupt practices and other related crimes (ICPC), together with a request for freedom of information (foi) to the police, seeking clarifications on the alleged improper use of funds pursuant to the current police leadership.

Nwagwu expressed concern for those he described as “credible relationships” of informants and media claiming that the police pursuant to Egbetokun has managed over 234 billion badly.

According to him, among the most disturbing of the statements there was the alleged diversion of ₦ 6 billion from the budget of the internal security operations of the police, who was used to finance a controversial contract for uniforms.

He said: “There is news that on January 16, 2024, the IGP approved a 6 billion years contract for the uniforms of the police via the internal memo CQ 6000/DLS/FHQ/Abj83/946, a sum of its approval threshold.

To get around the laws on contracts, the contract was presumably divided into 66 smaller contracts – all based on ₦ 100 million – having acted in a single company, the Crown Natures lords Nigeria Plc. “

Nwagwu also said that this contract has been assigned despite a previous allocation of the 7.34 billion budget already provided for uniforms in the appropriation of 2024, defining it an application for “double funding” and a violation of the laws and supply laws.

He also mentioned a reminder of the police and accounts, Dandela Kassim, dated 28 March 2024, who according to what was reported opposed to the transaction for legal and financial reasons.

But rejecting, the Integrity Youth Alliance rejected the accusations as “unfounded and mischievous”, accusing Paca of being influenced by former discontented police officers and aspiring failed for the position of the IGP.

In a statement issued by his national coordinator, Kelvin Adegbenga, the group accused the signatories of Orchestrate a campaign of blackmail and disinformation against Egbetokun.

Adgbenga said: “IGP Egbetokun has never diverted ₦ 6 billion as presumed. These accusations are the manual work of individuals who have compulsorily retired for having falsified their records or bitter ones for not having reached the post of IGP.”

Egbetokun’s administration praised for the promotion of transparency and responsibility, stating that the current police leadership had introduced significant reforms and was based on professional advice for the contract’s approvals.

“The time has come that the Nigeria police applied existing laws against the constant defamation of the person of the IGP,” added Adegbenga. “No quantity of blackmail will derail his mission to build a professional force and guided by the service.”
