By applying its zero tolerance for automotive accidents, the training school of articulated truck formation (Datdts), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), is implementing more rigorous entry requirements for aspiring drivers.
This development comes while Dangote Cement Plc undertakes the registration and screening of all his truck drivers in the company’s Obajana plant in Kogi’s state.
Speaking with journalists in the Obajana plant, Head of Transport, Cement Plc Dangote, Murilo Silva, said that in the field of efforts to promote safe driving and obtain zero road accidents, the company started installing cameras through its fleet of thousands of CNG trucks. He revealed that candidates must be at least 23 years old and have a minimum of five years of relevant driving experience, as well as holding a valid class G driving license.
He explained that anyone looking for employment as a truck driver must undergo an in -depth examination and screening process, which includes medical evaluations and anti -drug tests.
Silva said that a applicant must have a clean judicial box, without pending legal cases.
Previously, the head of the transport division at DCP Obajana, Hemant Rana, revealed that the company has set up a pre-itey inspection bay by many millions of Naira, managed with engineers and mechanics, to ensure a thorough inspection of the trucks before taking travel.
He said: “We built a nursing home for drivers to rest after traveling and before embarking on new trips”.
Rana also explained that: “We have developed a monitoring system of our drivers that helps them carry out their work safely. We have Help Desk units of drivers who follow drivers’ situations during travel. We also have a control department that follows with the behavior of drivers during travel.”
The director of the training school of articulated swing of Dangote, Daniel Marcus Akuso, said that the institution is the first of its kind in Nigeria, adding that the programs are implemented in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (Frsc).
