Dangote Refinery: Otedola orders oil gangs to dismantle depot, sell for scrap

Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola on Tuesday warned oil gangs in the country to dismantle their depots and sell them for scrap before it is too late.

He made the suggestion in a post on his X platform shortly after the launch of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which is known as petrol from the Dangote Refinery.

Otedola described the launch of petrol from the 65,000 barrels per day refinery as a “monumental achievement” under President Bola Tinubu.

He expressed his joy that the Dangote refinery was finally a reality.

He wrote: “It has been 25 years since we first set out to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape. I remember well when we set up the Blue Star Consortium to acquire stakes in the Kaduna and Port Harcourt oil refineries—20% for me and 51% for you,” the post read.

“We were ready to change the game, but fate had other plans. The government of the day, in an act I can only describe as utterly obnoxious, called our bets off and thwarted our vision. But, as always, you refused to be deterred. You never gave up on the dream we shared.

“You carried the torch forward, lighting a spark that has now become a blazing fire. And now, 25 years later, here we stand on the threshold of history, with the first fuel shipment from the Dangote Refinery—a truly miraculous feat.

“While the Kaduna and Port Harcourt oil refineries are still inactive, their promises unfulfilled despite billions of dollars spent on so-called turn-around maintenance, you have achieved what many said was impossible.”

Otedola said Dangote had silenced the naysayers and proved wrong those who never wanted the project to succeed.

The billionaire stressed that the refinery had freed Nigeria “from the chains of economic dependency that had shackled the country for too long.”

“You have dealt a mortal blow to the so-called local secret groups that have been fattening themselves for years, feeding on the fruits of our nation’s economic slavery.

“This secret society, which has grown rich by keeping Nigeria in a state of perpetual dependency, must now face the reality that their era of easy profits is coming to an end.

“I remember when you revolutionized the cement industry in Nigeria. The ships that used to transport cement were rusty relics, remnants of a bygone era,” the businessman added.
