Davido stopped music for 60 days to lead his uncle’s re-election bid

Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced a temporary break from music, suspending shows and public appearances for 60 days to focus on political mobilization in Osun State.

The singer revealed his decision at an event in Ede, where a youth campaign committee was inaugurated ahead of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has been appointed chairman of the youth campaign committee, placing him at the center of grassroots strategy across the state. Her role includes coordinating door-to-door outreach and engaging young voters across Osun, an important demographic in the upcoming election cycle.

Addressing his supporters, the artist said his decision was about more than family loyalty, and stressed that he had confidence in the governor’s performance and future plans. “I’ve put my music career on hold for the next two months and am working for my uncle—not just because he’s my uncle, but because I believe in what he’s doing,” he said.

The move marks the intersection of entertainment and politics, with Davido leveraging his influence to drive voter engagement. Known for its large young following, its involvement is expected to strengthen the campaign’s visibility and encourage grassroots participation.

Governor Adeleke, who is seeking a second term, is increasingly relying on youth-driven structures to consolidate support across the state. Davido’s appointment signals a strategic push to leverage celebrity influence to mobilize first-time and undecided voters.

Although the singer did not provide details regarding the impact of the break on his scheduled projects or international commitments, he made it clear that, for now, political engagement is his priority. “No show at this time,” he told the audience, underscoring his full commitment to the campaign effort.
