Denrele revealed why he chose to celebrate self-love with a symbolic wedding to himself

Popular Nigerian television personality and actor, Denrele Edun, has revealed the inspiration behind his symbolic decision to marry himself as part of activities to mark his 45th birthday.

The entertainer, whose full name is Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, sparked discussions on social media after posting a video on June 13 announcing her unusual union, a move that quickly drew backlash from fans and followers.

Responding to the reasons for the act in a message shared via his Instagram Story on Tuesday, Denrele said the act was not about convention but about recognizing a lifetime of personal growth, resilience and self-discovery.

Looking back on four and a half decades of experiences, challenges and triumphs, he said the celebration was dedicated to the one constant presence throughout his life’s journey—himself.

“Till death do us part. So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I have ever known,” she said.

The media star explained that the symbolic wedding represented an embrace of every phase of her life and every version of herself that contributed to who she is today.

“I am a bride. And I married every version of me that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who has never left my side: ME!” he stated.

Known for her bold fashion choices, vibrant personality, and unconventional approach to life and entertainment, Denrele complemented the announcement with her signature flair, describing herself as:

“The Bride. The Groom. The Happily Ever After.”

The announcement sparked widespread discussion online, with many admirers praising the message as a powerful expression of self-worth, resilience, healing and personal acceptance. For most supporters, the symbolic ceremony is not about marriage, but rather about celebrating a life lived without regrets and the journey of learning to love oneself through each season.
