On Wednesday, the police command in the state of Anambra accused a 72 -year -old doctor and two women for presumably stolen and sold children.
The defendants appeared in front of the children of the state, the court for sexual and gender violence in Awka.
The doctor is Daniel Ikebuilo; The others are Ifunanya Ogbonna, 24 and Odinaka Okieor, 27.
They have been accused of conspiracy, theft of children, illegal agreements and the sale of children.
They declared themselves not guilty.
The prosecutor, Chinyere Okechukwu, police inspector, told the Court that the defendants committed the crimes from July 2024 to February 2025 in Nkwelle-Ezunaka in the area of the local government of Oyi of Anambra.
Mr. Okechulwu said that the defendants conspired and fraudulently took away two children, aged between six and five years, against the desire of their parents.
He added that the doctor sold the six -year -old boy for N3 million.
Ms Okechukwu said that the other defendants sold the five -year -old boy for n1.2 million to the doctor.
The prosecutor stated that the crimes violated sections 495 (a) and 321 of the criminal code, laws of Anambra, 1991, modified.
He added that the crimes violated section 31 (1) (4) of the law on the rights of minors of the state 2004.
The magistrate chief, EU Onochie, granted any bail of the defendant in the sum of n1 million with a surety in a similar sum.
Mrs. Onochie updated the case until May 7 for an audition. [NAN]
