Doctors in the resident in Abuja continued their duties after the strike for a week

The Resident Doctor Association at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has suspended its unlimited strike, announced that members will continue their work on Monday at 8 am

Association President, Dr. George Ebong, revealed development when speaking to journalists on Friday. He explained that the decision followed the intervention of the Senate Committee on the Federal Regional Council and the addition problem, led by Senator David Jimkuta.

Ebong, however, noted that no union demands were fulfilled. “Even though there has been no demand for us to be fulfilled, they assured us that they would involve the minister, and the congress had chosen to trust the guarantee,” he said. He also acknowledged the involvement of the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, in the negotiations.

Doctors, who operate in 14 district and general hospitals and the Department of Community Health under FCTA, began strikes on Monday after negotiations that were protracted with administration failed to produce results.

Their demands include payment of salary arrears between one and six months owed to the members employed since 2023, the recruitment of additional staff immediately, and the release of the 2025 medical residency training funds. They are also looking for arrears from a review of 25-35 percent and above from the consolidated medical salary structure (Conmess).

Other requests include a time schedule for the process of passing and the conversion process, the wrong reduction resolution of salary, and regulatory of payment patterns. The doctors also encouraged the conversion of post-part II colleagues to become a consultant within six months, fast promotional training with arrears, and completion of wage award arrears.

In addition, trade unions have demanded renovations and equipped FCTA hospitals, payment of arrears of hazards, and cleaning salary deposits owed to the newly employed external population.

According to Dr. Ebong, the Ard-FCTA Congress will regroup after the agreed period to review the progress of the intervention. “If nothing is done, the congress will determine the next line of action,” he said.
