Three Wema Bank employees, along with four alleged accomplices, have been charged by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) before judge Daniel Osiagor from the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, for alleged N8.5 billion fraud.
The Defendants – Amuel ASIGBU, Fabian Onyimachi, and Kingsley Kekim, all staff members of Bank Wema – were charged with Hannah Okunlola Adesokan, Hamza Zakariya, Achionu Ubaku, and Osademe Sunday. They face the cost of eight calculations that include conspiracy and get money for fake reasons.
In a statement released Monday by Dele Oyewale, the head of the EFCC media and publicity, it was revealed that the defendants were accused of conspiring to manipulate and change bank data belonging to the bank’s bank in January 2025, causing financial losses N8.568,090,500.
Oyewale stated, “The defendants committed violations that were contrary to part 27 (1) (a) of cyberspace (prohibition, prevention, etc.) Law, 2015 and could be punished based on the same action.”

One of the indictments reads, “That you, Samuel Ihechukwu Asegbu, Ejim Kingsley Kelechi and other people in general, around January 2025, conspiring between you to cause property loss into banks domiciled in Wema Bank Nigeria PLC. (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Law, 2015.”
Another prince stated: “That you Samuel Ihechukwu Asegbu and other people in general, around January 2025, in this honorable court jurisdiction and without authority cause the loss of the number of PLCs changed by the PLC. Utilize yourself and you thus commit violations that are contrary to part 14 (1) of the crime of cyber (prevention of prohibitions, etc.)
According to Oyewale, all defendants claimed to be innocent for the accusation.
Following their request, EFCC Advisor Aso Peters asked for the trial date and asked the court to return the defendants to the Nigerian correctional facility. However, the legal counsel for Hannah Okunlola appealed to him to be returned in EFCC detention, quoting his health condition.
Oyewale confirmed that Judge Osiagor postponed this case until 6 June 2025, to be tried. “Judge Osiagor postponed this problem until 6 June 2025, to be tried and returned five defendants to the Nigerian correctional service facility, while Kingsley Ejim Kelechi would continue the existing guarantee.
