EFCC arrests of alleged fraudsters suspected of buying details of a bank account

The Operation of the Directorate of Zonal Benin from the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arrested an Olawole Sunday, a con artist who is suspected of specializing in buying a bank account details from people who allegedly deceived community members who were not suspicious.

According to the commission, the modus operandi on Sunday was involved in encouraging young people to open several bank accounts, pay them either N25,000 or N50,000 for each account and collect their bank details including automatic teller machines, ATM cards.

Sunday allegedly used the account details from one eghosa Uyi Godstime to deceive the applicant number N2 million with a guise of trade in Forex. The account owner, Eghosa was arrested and his disclosure that he did not realize that his account was used to deceive community members, causing the arrest of Sunday.

Eghosa explained that he released the details of his account, including his ATM card, to Sunday after the N25,000 payment (twenty-five thousand naira) to him.

Dele Oyewale, in a statement said on Sunday, after his arrest, allegedly acknowledged the crime and would be charged with court immediately after the investigation was completed.
