On Tuesday there was a wave of excitement and new political calculations that the president Bola Tinubu held a crucial meeting in London with the suspended governor of the state of sparrows, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Although the meeting was wrapped in secret, sources that are familiar with development confirmed that it was the first face -to -face meeting between the two since President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state of oil on March 18, suspending Fubara, his deputy Dr. Ngozi Odu and the entire house of State Assembly.
The African relationship stated that the meeting was at the request of Fubara, but the presidency did not confirmed or denied the meeting.
Repeated efforts to obtain official comments from ASO Rock have not produced any response, since officials have maintained a close lips position.
However, a source aware of the discussion said that the meeting was part of a strategic move by Tinubu to eliminate the political crisis of months that swallowed the state of the rivers and represented a threat to national cohesion.
“This was a step calculated by the president to restore normalcy and avoid further damage to the democratic structure in South-south”, the source, which required anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, has disclosed.
In his national broadcast on March 18, Tinubu had invoked section 305 of the 1999 Constitution to justify his drastic action, citing “months of intense political instability” which he had “paralyzed governance” and “threatened national stability”.
To fill the emptiness of power, the president has appointed former head of the naval staff, the deputy admiral IBOK-ETE EKWE IBAS (RETD.), As the only administrator of the State.
The best helpers of the president, speaking out of records, hinted that the London interviews focused on a roadmap for the restoration of democratic governance in the rivers, with the possibility that Fubara would return to office before they spent his six -month suspensions.
In the meantime, evidently absent from the high -level interviews, it was the foreign political godfather of Fubara and the current minister of the territory of the federal capital, Nyesom Wike.
Sources say that Wike, who has been at the center of the crisis, is according to what is reported is restless for the new rapprochement that excludes it.
