Former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has slammed the organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protests, saying they are opportunists eyeing political power.
Omokri, who made the remarks in a post on X on Friday, said the protests were not about the country’s hardships but about the selfish interests of protesters who are desperate for power.
He cited some of the demands of the protest organizers, including the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, and wondered what that had to do with the situation in the country.
“I have organized protests in Nigeria and abroad and can tell you that the protests planned now are not protests against economic hardship, as the organizers claim,” Omokri wrote.
“Look at their demands. More than half of their demands are political. Their demands have nothing to do with the economy. These people are opportunists. They are trying to exploit the anger of some Nigerians to achieve their political ambitions.
“They should start or join a political party and then use it to achieve their political agenda instead of claiming that they are protesting against hunger and hardship and then asking for the abrogation of the 1999 Constitution and the release of Nnamdi Kanu. What do those things have to do with hunger and hardship?
“How can you say I should support a protest whose one demand is the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, a man who has called for the destruction of Nigeria? That automatically means that by supporting this protest, I am also supporting the destruction of Nigeria.
“What about the hundreds of soldiers and policemen who were killed after Nnamdi Kanu released a video asking his supporters to kill soldiers and policemen? Who will protest against them?
“Dismiss your protest!”
