The former Nigerian defender Eric Ejiofor has abruptly criticized the Super Eagles for his poor way in the current World Cup qualifiers, asking for urgent changes in both planning and mentality.
In an interview with Brila FM, Ejiofor, who obtained 14 caps for Nigeria during his career as a player, expressed his frustration for the team’s struggles, attributing his low performance to the lack of adequate planning and management.
“Our problem is that we do not plan, and that is why we are in this disaster,” said Ejiofor. “Football has changed, and any other African nation is pressing to qualify for the World Cup. We play as if we do not completely understand the importance of being in the World Cup.”
With Nigeria sitting in the 4th place in group C, 6 points behind the leaders of South Africa, Ejiofor emphasized the need for commitment and determination. “We need to unite as a team and approach each game seriously. The approach must be winning, not to try to play beautiful football,” he urged.
As the Super Eagles go to the final stretch of their qualifiers, the pressure is increasing for both players and the coaching staff to change things. With only four remaining games, Nigeria faces a crucial battle to ensure a place in the 2026 World Cup.
