The IMO state government has officially reported the celebration of the Olympic day of 2025 with a strong reaffirmation of its commitment for sports development and the lasting values of the Olympic spirit.
The ceremony, held in Owerri, was embellished with athletes, sports stakeholders and enthusiasts of the whole state. Speaking on behalf of the executive governor of the state IMO, his excellence District Sen. Hope Uzodimma, The Hon. Commissioner for sport, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, handed over the message of goodwill of the governor, described as a warmth and encouragement.
In the message, Governor Uzodimma expressed joy to join the global community to commemorate the Olympic day of this year, while underlining the historical roots of the Olympic movement, founded in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin to encourage sports, peace and unity.
“The Olympic day is a global celebration that inspires people around the world to actively participate in sport and embrace the values of excellence, friendship and respect”, reads the message.
Governor Uzodimma, through the Hon. Onyeocha, observed the unique power of sports to unite communities and build bridges through cultures. “This year’s event reminds us that sport builds bridges, unites people in peace and solidarity and inspire us to be the best version of ourselves. He promotes health, friendship and the community,” he added.
Reaffirming the commitment of the government of prosperity shared in the creation of an environment suitable for sport, the governor has promised continuous support for basic sports and the development of athletes throughout the IMO state.
“We will continue to support sport and athletes throughout the state of imo. You, athletes and sports lovers, must have a lot of the imo state by striving to win laurels and bring pride to our dear state”, continued the declaration.
The ceremony reached its climax as Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, on behalf of the governor, officially declared the celebration of the Olympic day of 2025.
“On this special day, we celebrate the joy that only sports can bring. It is my singular honor and privilege, on behalf of his excellence, that reports this year’s celebration,” he told an enthusiastic applause.
